Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Employers face charges for emergency unemployment benefits

Beginning August 1, 2025, Louisiana removes an exemption from employers’ unemployment benefit charges. Benefits paid under Executive Orders KBB 2005-34, KBB 2005-46, and KBB 2005-76 count against employers’ experience-rating records. The administrator must send each employer a statement within 90 days after each calendar quarter ends. Statements must list benefits paid to each employee and charged to the employer’s record. Charges become binding unless employers request a review, with reasons, within 30 days after mailing to their last known address.

Employers get longer to notify departing workers

Beginning August 1, 2025, Louisiana employers have 10 days after separation to send required notices, rather than three. This applies when a worker leaves for a reason that may disqualify them from unemployment benefits. Employers must send the notice electronically to the unemployment administrator and mail, deliver, or transmit it to the worker. The notice must include the separation date, a full explanation of the cause, and requested information about employee payments. Employers get more time, but workers can receive the notice later.
