Public workers get self-paid drug options

By October 1, 2026, Louisiana's Office of Group Benefits must notify all enrollees about direct-buy options for FDA-approved weight-loss medicines. The office must post the notice on its website and send it electronically. Enrollees and dependents who buy weight-loss medicines directly from drug makers pay 100% of the cost. The law does not set prices or guarantee savings.

Public workers get self-paid weight care

Starting January 1, 2027, Louisiana's Office of Group Benefits must offer a voluntary weight management plan to enrollees and dependents. It includes FDA-approved medicines, compounded metabolic health therapies that meet federal requirements, medical evaluations, prescribing oversight, follow-up care, support services, and metabolic health measurements over time. Members pay 100% of the premium; the law does not set its amount. Joining cannot be required for other health coverage, and existing plans need not change medical necessity, treatment review, or covered-drug rules. The office develops, negotiates, and implements the plan within an IRS-qualified cafeteria plan when applicable, with approval from designated legislative committees or their oversight subcommittee; Louisiana's Title 39, Chapter 17 procurement rules do not apply.
