Commercial fishing tags drop Social Security numbers

Beginning August 1, 2026, covered Louisiana commercial fishing net tags no longer need the owner's Social Security number. Department-issued tags still require the owner's name, address, and applicable commercial permit number. Covered pompano strike nets require the permit number for taking black drum (puppy drum), sheepshead, and flounder. In the specified Breton and Chandeleur Islands waters, pompano strike-net tags require the commercial pompano permit number. Mullet strike-net tags require the commercial mullet permit number. The law also removes the ban on issuing covered pompano-net tags to people without a Social Security number.
