Beginning January 1, 2027, Louisiana law sets payment and network protections for certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). Insurers must allow at least the amount allowed for the same service performed by a physician. The CRNA must personally perform the service without medical direction from a physician or dentist, within their lawful scope of practice. Medicare Part B billing rules apply, regardless of billing code or modifier. Insurers cannot deny participation or network inclusion solely because of provider type or license; other grounds for denial remain allowed. New policies, contracts, programs, and health plans issued on or after January 1, 2027, must comply. Existing coverage must comply by its renewal date, no later than January 1, 2028. The law does not change professional practice limits or set patients’ out-of-pocket costs.
