Louisiana’s Board of Regents coordinates with college management boards to set accreditation rules, approved-accreditor lists, and safeguards against losing accreditation. Public colleges need management-board approval to change accreditors and must keep federally recognized accreditation throughout; programs needing specialized accreditation must also stay accredited. School-wide accreditors must be federally recognized and Regents-listed, while specialized accreditors must be Regents-listed; they must emphasize credential completion, workforce outcomes, quality, affordability, financial stability, and rigorous yearly faculty review. Chosen accreditors must promise in writing not to make initial or continued accreditation depend on breaking the Louisiana Constitution or state law. Colleges must post their accreditation status and supporting documents online, with management boards setting how and how often renewal or accreditor-change updates appear.
