West Pearl drainage relief with development limits

From August 1, 2026, through August 1, 2031, the law exempts specified drainage work from Louisiana Scenic Rivers Act restrictions. This applies to the West Pearl River and its tributaries from Lock 1 to the Rigolets. Covered work includes channelization, clearing and snagging, channel realignment, and dredging—all for drainage purposes. The Act cannot prohibit this work or require its scenic-river permit under R.S. 56:1849. The exception does not allow new commercial or clustered residential development along designated scenic rivers within that area and period.
