Campus violence rules cover sexual deepfakes

Louisiana’s campus violence law expands coverage of sex-based abuse, including stalking, sexual exploitation, and sharing private images without consent. It also covers unlawful AI-generated or deepfake sexual imagery under state statutes 14:73.13 or 14:73.14, or their replacements. The conduct must use power or authority to control, coerce, harm, exploit, or intimidate someone based on sex. These changes bring qualifying digital abuse into the safety rules at colleges covered by the law.

Students get repeated campus safety information

By the start of fall semester 2026, covered Louisiana colleges must share safety information at least four times each academic year. Colleges must develop and update it with campus or local law enforcement. It must explain how to identify, prevent, and respond to sex-based violence, including its dangers and prohibition. It must cover internet and cell phone safety, including recognizing online campus threats on social media. Students must learn how and where to report violence, campus crimes, student conduct violations, and threats, and find campus safety reports. Colleges can deliver it in person, online, or both, but must include it at new-student orientation and on an easy-to-find webpage. Parents or legal guardians must receive the same information when the student is a minor.
