Earlier childcare help applications for expectant mothers

Beginning August 1, 2026, expectant mothers can apply for Louisiana’s Child Care Assistance Program before giving birth. The Department of Education must create a preliminary eligibility process approved by both the Senate and House education committees. The state education board must issue rules to carry out this process. Eligibility must be confirmed after birth. The law does not change who qualifies, and applying early does not guarantee assistance.
