New medical rate rules for injured workers

Beginning August 1, 2026, the law ends Louisiana's Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council, including its appointment rules, reporting duties, policy advice, and liability protection. Medical payment rates must limit charges to the average of usual and customary charges for care, services, treatment, drugs, and supplies. The assistant secretary of Louisiana Works must review the schedule and issue and put needed changes in place by July 1, 2029. Apart from that required review, needed changes may be made annually. The law sets no specific rate increase or cut, so effects on injured workers and providers remain unknown.
