2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Fluoride rules for larger water systems

Public water systems with at least 5,000 service connections must adjust natural fluoride levels outside the state's optimal range. They must acquire, install, operate, and maintain the needed equipment and materials. This duty applies only when identified state funds cover equipment acquisition, installation, and at least six months of fluoridation materials. Those six months start at initial installation. Louisiana's Office of Public Health must issue fluoridation rules to protect residents' oral health.

More water systems can skip fluoridation

Local governments can vote to exempt public water systems from fluoridation requirements. Systems are no longer barred from an exemption because they previously used fluoridation or had fluoride within the optimal range. The remaining exemption requirements in state law still apply; the provided text does not list them. Exemptions reduce systems' compliance duties, but residents served by exempt systems may have less access to fluoridated water.
