Longer deadlines for local meeting records

Beginning August 1, 2026, responsible officials have 45 days after a meeting to send records for publication, up from 20. This applies to Louisiana municipal governments, police juries, and school boards. Required records include minutes, ordinances, resolutions, budgets, and proceedings sent to the official journal. Officials who willfully miss the deadline still face a $25–$500 fine, 10 days to six months in jail, or both. The longer deadline may delay public access to meeting records.
