Shreveport-Bossier hotel tax can be renewed repeatedly

Beginning August 1, 2026, the law removes the one-time renewal-election limit for the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau’s additional lodging tax. The tax covers hotel rooms, motel rooms, and overnight camping facilities in Caddo and Bossier parishes. The bureau must call each tax election, and a majority voting on the measure in those parishes must approve it. All votes must occur at regularly scheduled statewide elections; the initial authorization election remains limited to one attempt. Initial taxing authority ends June 30 of the twelfth calendar year after voter approval. Each renewal lasts for the term stated in the ballot measure, no longer than 12 years. Renewals can continue guests’ added lodging costs, but this law does not specify a tax rate.
