The law allows competitive testing for Bossier City jobs operating, managing, or supervising radio, alarm, and other signal systems. This includes fire-alarm and police-alarm systems. The Bossier City Police Department jail superintendent job is also covered. Tests are held only as service needs require.
Bossier City police employees who pass a promotion test rank by total promotional seniority in the next lower job class. Department seniority breaks ties, and the same rules apply when new names join the list. When reinstatement or rehiring cannot fill a vacancy, the board certifies candidates in list order. The appointing authority selects the certified candidate with the most promotional seniority, then follows that order for later vacancies. If someone refuses, the authority moves down the list until the job is filled or the list runs out.
When Bossier City police abolish an entire job class, regular employees in that class move to lower classes. Priority for available positions depends on total promotional seniority earned in the abolished class. Department seniority breaks ties and determines the order on the reinstatement list.
