Louisiana college students get sexual health information

The Campus Awareness Initiative requires Louisiana public colleges and universities to post signs about sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Student health center staff must post them in every patient admission area, waiting room, and consultation room. Signs must say “Worried about STIs? Just Check!” and link to state health department resources on prevention, screening, and treatment. They must have color graphics, large readable text, and durable material measuring at least 16 by 20 inches. The Louisiana Department of Health or its designated nonprofit must design and produce the signs. Signs must be approved or provided by the department or its designated nonprofit. The nonprofit must be a private, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization chosen by the department’s secretary. The department need not use its own funds to buy signs; it can use donated funds or accept department-approved donated signs. The law took effect upon the governor’s signature.
