Louisiana State University gains limited land powers

Beginning August 1, 2026, Louisiana State University's board gains authority to buy, sell, transfer, or exchange real estate. This authority overrides conflicting state laws and ends August 1, 2028. The entire property must be in East Baton Rouge Parish and within one mile of property LSU owns or controls. LSU cannot pay more than appraised fair market value when acquiring property, or receive less when disposing of it. The state keeps mineral rights when property is sold, transferred, or exchanged. The board must notify the State Land Office in writing within five business days after a sale, transfer, or exchange. The law also validates board-approved sales, transfers, and exchanges completed before August 1, 2026, that met these requirements.
