Louisiana narrows and reschedules nutrition rules

Louisiana's nutrition requirements apply only when federal food regulators require an ingredient to be named on a food label. The ingredient must also be used in food or drinks meant for people. Beginning January 1, 2028, the law repeals two provisions enacted in 2025: R.S. 40:661(A)(1) and R.S. 17:197.2(B)(13). R.S. 40:662 takes effect January 1, 2028. R.S. 40:661 and the Part I-B heading take effect December 31, 2028. The supplied text does not explain the repealed rules, so their effects on households are unclear.
