New recording safeguards in special education classrooms

Beginning August 1, 2026, Louisiana requires new safeguards for video and audio recordings from self-contained special education classrooms. School system policies must require two officials at the first viewing after a request. They must be the superintendent and a designee, or two designees of the superintendent. Anyone who views a recording and suspects a state or federal law violation must report it. Reports must go to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
