New court charges for certain offenders

Beginning July 1, 2025, Mississippi adds court charges on top of other penalties for specified crimes. A $1,000 charge goes to the Victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation Fund. It applies when courts impose fines or other penalties under Sections 97-3-54.1, 97-3-65, 97-3-95, 97-5-1 and following sections, or 97-29-51. It also applies to felony violations of Section 97-3-7. Misdemeanor violations of Section 97-3-7 carry a $100 to $1,000 charge for the same fund. Courts may allow these charges to be paid in installments. A separate $1,000 charge goes to the Mississippi Children’s Trust Fund for offenses against minors under Sections 97-3-65, 97-5-1 and following sections, or 97-3-7.
