Election checklist and e-poll book rules

Beginning January 1, 2027, the Department of Safety and the Secretary of State run a secure system to send photos and citizenship data. In towns with electronic poll books, clerks must load the data to the checklist by the Friday before the election. In towns without e‑poll books, clerks must mark the checklist to show they received the info. On election day, e‑poll book devices cannot connect to the Internet. Local checklists include a voter’s citizenship status when the clerk receives that information from the Secretary of State.

Use enhanced ID photo for voting

Beginning January 1, 2027, if you are a U.S. citizen applying for an enhanced ID, you can choose to share your photo and citizenship info for voting ID. The Secretary of State sends it to your local clerk within 3 days. It counts as proof of citizenship for voter checklist rules. To use it on election day, your photo and citizenship info must be captured at least 14 days before the election. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting the Department of Safety, and your photo and citizenship info are removed.
