Online guide and nominations for historic places

The law takes effect 120 days after enactment. New Jersey’s Division of Travel and Tourism must maintain a searchable website with a list and interactive map of historic places. It includes historic sites, districts, and the roadside markers program. Listings include directions from north, south, east, and west, plus public-transit directions where available. They also include tour availability, frequency and hours, photos, owner or operator phone numbers and websites, and local marker-program links. The Division must update listings when places join the marker program, are established by government, or receive state transportation road signs. The Historical Commission must accept online public nominations for sites and districts not owned, operated, or maintained by government. Nominations do not guarantee a marker. Markers must bear the State seal, show Commission approval and historical-accuracy standards, and follow state transportation rules for design and placement.
