Beginning November 13, 2025, New Jersey reserves publicly accessible charging spaces for plug-in electric vehicles that are actively charging. Signs and pavement markings must show this restriction and be visible during the day and night. Non-electric vehicles and plug-in vehicles that are not charging cannot park there, protecting access for drivers who need to charge. Fines are $55 for a first offense, $100 for a second, and $200 for a third or later offense. Municipalities may tow violating vehicles, and the registered owner or lessee must pay towing and storage costs.
