Effective December 31, 2024, the law extends New Jersey's telehealth payment rules through July 1, 2026. Health plans must pay providers the same rate for covered telehealth services as for in-person care. The service must also be covered when provided in person in New Jersey. Covered plans include Medicaid, NJ FamilyCare, and state and school employee health plans. Equal payment does not apply to telehealth organizations that do not offer the same service in person in New Jersey. For live, two-way audio-only physical health care, contracts set payment at no less than 50% of the in-person rate. This rule also applies when audio-only care uses stored information sent for later review. Live, two-way audio-only behavioral health care receives the full in-person rate. The law sets provider payment rules, not patients' copays or deductibles.
