Accessible rides for seniors and disabled residents
New Jersey counties can seek funding for accessible local rides for residents age 60 and older and people with disabilities. Services include on-demand rides and connections to accessible fixed-route transit where available. The law dedicates annual funding equal to 8.5% of the prior fiscal year’s Casino Revenue Fund revenue; counties receive 85%, and NJ Transit receives 15% for accessibility improvements and program support. Counties generally receive at least $150,000 a year; in the first fiscal year, the minimum is $50,000 and the maximum is $150,000. County proposals must follow program guidelines, and counties hold annual public hearings.
