Paid childbirth recovery leave for state troopers

Beginning January 12, 2026, the New Jersey State Police Superintendent must establish a recovery leave policy. Troopers who present proof of pregnancy get at least eight continuous weeks off after childbirth, with full pay and benefits. This leave does not count as sick leave or reduce sick-leave balances. Residency restrictions and integrity checks that otherwise apply to sick or other medical leave do not apply during recovery leave. The Superintendent must post the policy, required before-and-after forms, frequently asked questions, and contact information on the State Police intranet.
