Historic distilleries get licenses with limits

Beginning July 8, 2025, New Jersey creates a $1,000 annual distillery license for premises listed in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places. Applicants must hold a federal permit to operate an Internal Revenue bonded warehouse. Licensees can make and distribute their spirits, sell them for on-site drinking, and sell up to five liters per person for off-site use. They can offer three samples per person per calendar day, each no larger than one-half ounce; direct shipping, food sales, and restaurants on-site are banned. Spirits transferred to a bonded warehouse for bottling and storage can be sold or sampled on-site only with a bonded warehouse bottling license.
