More menopause coverage for insured women

Covered New Jersey health plans must cover medically needed care for women diagnosed with perimenopause, menopause, or related symptoms. Coverage must match coverage for other medical conditions. Care includes hormone treatments, including bioidentical hormones; non-hormone treatments; behavioral health care; pelvic floor therapy; bone-health screenings and medicines; and counseling. It also includes related preventive services rated A or B by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Insurers and public employee plans must give members clear, accessible information about covered treatments. The law takes effect 90 days after enactment and applies to covered private policies, including small-employer plans, issued or renewed afterward. The private-plan mandates apply where insurers retain the right to change premiums or charges. State and school employee plan contracts are covered when purchased on or after that date.
