The law takes effect immediately and expands which vaccines qualify under affected New York health insurance coverage rules. Vaccines qualify with a current recommendation for the individual from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine advisory committee. They also qualify when the state health commissioner recommends them to the insurance superintendent using generally accepted medical standards. The commissioner considers advice from the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American College of Physicians, or similar nationally or internationally recognized scientific groups.
