Oneida Nation county jail agreements take effect

The law immediately approves two Oneida Indian Nation agreements, making them fully enforceable despite conflicting laws. They cover holding adults sent by the Nation’s court in the respective county jails. Oneida County’s agreement was signed May 23, 2024; Madison County’s was signed May 28, 2024. The law removes the agreements’ former three-year and two-year limits, respectively. The approval provisions expire May 23, 2033, for Oneida County and May 28, 2033, for Madison County. The related correction-law changes also expire when the underlying law is repealed.
