After June 30, 2029, the main law for the state property insurance pool ends. The pool must still service any policies it issued and any obligations it took on before that date. This protects covered homeowners from gaps in claims handling or service.
The law keeps several insurance rate rules in place through June 30, 2029. Starting July 1, 2029, many rates move to different filing and approval rules. Rates that do not need filing, or are suspended from filing, are excluded. Insurers must reflect cost reductions required by law, even when a related section is suspended. The law also preserves earlier pause dates that began on August 3, 2001. These changes take effect now and keep the planned sunset dates for the named sections.
Beginning June 30, 2029, new, voluntarily written auto policies get stronger protection from mid-term nonrenewal. An insurer cannot make a nonrenewal or conditional renewal take effect during the required policy period unless the reason also allows cancellation. Or, the reason must be based on events in the 36 months that end four months before the notice takes effect. The law also sets matching rules for certain older policy periods named in law.
