NYC green roof tax break through 2031

The law extends NYC’s green roof property tax abatement through the tax year ending June 30, 2031. The base rate is $10 per square foot, up to $200,000 per abatement. In mayor-designated community districts, the rate is $15 per square foot for abatements starting July 1, 2019, also capped at $200,000. If your abatement is bigger than your bill, you can carry the rest for up to five years. You must file your application between January 1, 2009 and March 15, 2030. The program’s total payout is capped: $750,000 for 2014–2015 and $4 million per year from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2031. No abatements are allowed for tax years starting July 1, 2031 or later.
