New 2026 deadlines for candidate petitions

Candidates must file designating petitions no earlier than the 13th Monday before the primary and no later than the 12th Monday before it. In 2026, signatures count only if dated on or after 41 days before the last filing day, and on or before the 12th Thursday before the primary. These rules apply only to the 2026 primary cycle and replace the usual deadlines for that year. The law takes effect January 1, 2026 and ends December 31, 2026.
