New York requires a medical evaluation within 30 days before admission to its assisted living program to determine eligibility. The evaluation checks whether the program can meet the resident’s physical, supervision, emotional, and social needs. A licensed physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner must sign it. The law took effect immediately.
