10 extra exam points for NYC sanitation families

Children and siblings of New York City sanitation workers killed in the line of duty get 10 extra points on competitive exams for original jobs in the same city. "Killed in the line of duty" means death from the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attack, or from the rescue work that followed. The 10 points are added after you pass and when the eligible list is made. You can apply anytime until that date. You must have at least two months from your exam filing to send proof, or you do not get the credit on that list. If you get a permanent job from a list where the credit changed your place, you cannot use the credit again. This bar does not apply if your place was the same, or if your appointment ended or you resigned during probation. Civil service offices keep a roster of people appointed using the credit. A later appointment gained by the credit is void if you already had an earlier one. You may withdraw your request before the list is made, or give up the credit before appointment and keep your lower place.
