Hotline and referrals for military immigrants

The Office for New Americans assigns liaisons and works with the veterans department and the state military division. Liaisons in those agencies must refer eligible service members, veterans, and family to the Office for immigration help. The Office connects people to qualified immigration lawyers and accredited representatives and to existing programs. It runs a toll-free, multilingual hotline and a website and shares program information with veterans groups and local veterans service agencies. Office liaisons serve as points of contact for community groups to coordinate events and access to services.

Immigration help for NY military families

The law creates the Staff Sergeant Alex R. Jimenez program in the Office for New Americans. It helps uniformed service members, veterans, reservists, and their families secure legal status, including naturalization. Eligible family includes spouses, domestic partners, parents, stepparents, adoptive parents, children, and next-of-kin seeking posthumous citizenship for a member who died from service-related causes. Veterans with a qualifying condition and discharged LGBT veterans are included if the discharge was not bad conduct or dishonorable.

Privacy shield for military immigrant applicants

The law protects your personal data if you seek help through this program. The Department, the state military division, and the Office for New Americans cannot keep or share any personally identifying information you provide.
