Syracuse gets most extra tax revenue

The law sets shares of the extra 1% tax’s net collections from December 1, 2025, through November 30, 2027. Syracuse receives 97.79%, Onondaga County receives 1.58% for any county purpose, and school districts receive 0.63%. School districts receive their share under state school-district sharing rules. Payments must occur at least quarterly. These collections are excluded from revenue-sharing agreements under Tax Law section 1262(c).

Onondaga’s extra sales tax authority extended

The law extends Onondaga County’s authority to charge an extra 1% sales and use tax through November 30, 2027. This continues authority covering the period that began September 1, 2004. The extra tax brings the county rate from 3% to 4%, not counting other sales taxes. It applies to taxable purchases only when the county adopts or amends a local law, ordinance, or resolution imposing it. The law takes effect immediately.
