Expanded ultrasound coverage for pregnant New Yorkers

Beginning January 1, 2027, affected New York health plans must cover medically necessary transvaginal ultrasounds during pregnancy. Coverage is required when nationally recognized clinical practice guidelines recommend the ultrasound. This applies to policies or contracts issued, renewed, modified, altered, or amended on or after that date. The guidelines must use systematic evidence reviews and weigh the benefits and risks of care options. Independent organizations or medical professional societies must develop them using transparent methods and reporting, with conflict-of-interest policies.
