Bigger property tax break for seniors

Your town can choose to give bigger property tax breaks to senior homeowners. It creates $1,000 income steps below the town’s maximum income limit (M) for the senior exemption. Exemptions of your home’s assessed value are: under M but over M-$1,000: 50%; under M-$1,000 but over M-$2,000: 55%; under M-$2,000 but over M-$3,000: 60%; under M-$3,000: 65%. You must be 65 or older and have income below M. Beginning January 1, 2026, these larger exemptions apply only where the local government adopts this option.
