More awards for New York beverage sellers
The law adds liquor, beer, cider, and mead awards alongside New York's wine awards. The Governor can give up to three awards per category each year, with no cash payments. Eligible restaurants or retailers must be licensed to sell alcohol for use away from their businesses. Awards honor unusual efforts to tell customers about and feature qualifying New York drinks. Wine must use New York-grown grapes; other drinks must be made in New York from products grown in the state. State economic development, agriculture, and liquor officials coordinate nominations; the New York Wine and Grape Foundation also helps with the new categories. The law takes effect on the 90th day after becoming law.
More state promotion for New York beverages
The law directs state economic development officials to promote policies supporting New York-labeled beer, cider, liquor, and mead. They work with the Department of Agriculture and Markets and the State Liquor Authority. Promotion of New York-labeled wine continues with the New York Wine and Grape Foundation. The law adds no funding or direct payments to producers or sellers.
