The law limits how much a property class’s tax share can rise each year in Clarkstown. In the town’s approved assessing unit, a class’s current base proportion cannot be more than 1 percentage point above last year’s adjusted share. This applies to assessment rolls from 2017-2018 through 2025-2026. The limit applies only if the assessing unit passed a local law, ordinance, or resolution allowing it. If a calculated increase is higher, it is capped at 1%, and officials must adjust the other class shares so the total is 100%. The law takes effect immediately.
