The law authorizes White Plains to collect an extra 1.0% local sales and use tax on top of its 3% base rate. It includes a 0.5% add‑on (Sep 1, 1993–Aug 31, 2027), a 0.25% add‑on (Mar 1, 2008–Aug 31, 2027), and another 0.25% add‑on (Jun 1, 2010–Aug 31, 2027). All of these now run through August 31, 2027. You pay this at checkout on taxable purchases made in the city. Your cost depends on how much you buy in White Plains.
White Plains must mail a certified or registered copy of any local law adding or changing its extra sales and use tax to the New York tax commissioner in Albany. The mailing must be at least 21 days before the local law takes effect. This changes timing and notice only; it does not change the tax rate.
