From December 1, 2025 to November 30, 2027, the net extra 1% sales tax is split. 5% goes to school districts outside Rochester, 3% to towns, 1.25% to villages, and 90.75% to the City of Rochester and Monroe County combined. School shares are based on enrolled pupils; town and village shares are based on population ratios. The county’s share is for county purposes. This extra 1% money is not counted when the state checks sales tax increases or decreases under state rules.
Monroe County imposes an extra 1% sales and use tax, on top of the 3% local rate. You pay this on taxable purchases made in the county. The authorization runs through November 30, 2027.
