Mount Pleasant keeps hotel tax power

The law lets the Town of Mount Pleasant keep the power to adopt a hotel or motel stay tax. It only covers hotels and motels that are not inside a village in the town. The authorization now ends on September 1, 2027. Before, it ended on September 1, 2025. The law takes effect immediately. The state does not set a tax rate. If the town imposes or continues the tax, hotels must collect it from guests, which can raise room costs.
