Ulster can add 1% sales tax

The law lets Ulster County add an extra 1% sales and use tax on top of its 3% local rate. This authority applies from September 1, 2002 through November 30, 2027. The county must pass a local law, ordinance, or resolution for the extra rate to take effect. When in effect, you pay 1% more on taxable purchases made in Ulster County. Money from the extra 1% is counted in the county’s net collections and shared with the City of Kingston under their existing agreement.
