Retirement credit for Duane A. Palma

The law grants Deputy Sheriff Duane A. Palma credit in the optional 20-year retirement plan for his past correction officer service in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office jail bureau. The County of Monroe must file a resolution with the State Comptroller within one year and certify he did not bar himself by his own negligence. Palma must file a request within 18 months to be covered by sections 552 and 553 of the Retirement and Social Security Law. With both filings on time, he receives the plan’s full rights and benefits.

Monroe County pays past service cost

Monroe County must pay all employer past service pension costs from this act. The county can spread the payments over up to five years. The fiscal note estimates about $160,000 as the immediate cost, or about $35,900 per year over five years including interest. It also states this does not raise the county’s future annual contributions.
