Extra 1.25% Herkimer sales tax through 2027

The law authorizes Herkimer County to keep extra county sales and use taxes through November 30, 2027. The authorization covers an extra 1.25% on taxable purchases in the county (1.00% + 0.25%). The tax is collected at checkout and uses the same rules and exemptions as other county sales taxes. Net revenue from the extra 0.25% must go into a special fund to build additional correctional facilities. Any leftover from that 0.25% goes to the county’s general fund.
