New aid group for Pound Ridge firefighters

The law creates a benevolent association for Pound Ridge volunteer firefighters. To join at the start, you must tell the Fire Department secretary in writing before the first meeting or attend that meeting. After that, members are admitted under the group’s bylaws. Eligible members are active volunteers in the Pound Ridge Fire District who have, or will get, exempt status under New York law. Membership ends if you leave before getting exempt status, or if you were removed, expelled, or dropped and not reinstated. The group can keep a headquarters, aid disabled or injured members and families, support health and safety, and boost morale. It has normal corporate powers and can open homes or similar institutions without prior state board approval.

Premium taxes fund firefighter benefits in 2026

Beginning January 1, 2026, the association receives fire insurance premium taxes on policies covering property it protects. It also gets its share of a related tax on business written in that territory. Money from these taxes can be used only for the group’s purposes, like relief for disabled or injured members, health and safety, morale, and promoting volunteer service. These taxes must come from premiums received on or after January 1, 2026.
