20-year police pension for Michael Sprague

The law reopens the 20-year police retirement plan for Officer Michael Sprague. Port Chester must first agree to pay the added employer cost. Sprague must then file a written request with the State Comptroller within one year of the law’s effective date. He will get full credit in that plan for his past Port Chester service.

Port Chester pays past pension costs

The village of Port Chester must pay all employer past service costs from this change. The village can spread those payments over up to 10 years. The fiscal note estimates about $345,000 in one-time past service cost and about $21,000 more in contributions for the year ending March 31, 2026. If amortized, the first-year payment is about $44,100 with interest; future costs vary with salary and rates.
