Red tags on e-bike and moped chargers

Manufacturers, distributors, refurbishers, and retailers must attach a red tag to the charging cord near the wall plug on e-bikes, limited-use motorcycles (mopeds), and other micromobility devices. The tag must clearly say “UNPLUG WHEN NOT IN USE” and include safety tips for charging and use. Devices without this tag cannot be made, distributed, reconditioned, or sold at retail in New York. The Department of State sets the required safety content and posts a model tag businesses can use.
