More help for Cheektowaga volunteer firefighters

The law expands what the Rescue Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association can do. It can run a headquarters and hold social and recreation events to build morale. It can give relief to volunteer members who are disabled, indigent, or hurt while on duty, and help their families. It also promotes members’ welfare, health, and safety, and the volunteer fire service in the area protected by Rescue Volunteer Hose Company No. 1 in Walden Fire District No. 2.

Fire insurance taxes fund local firefighters

Beginning January 1, 2026, the association collects foreign fire insurance premium taxes on policies covering property in Walden Fire District No. 2 (Cheektowaga) and areas the district must protect. It also receives a share of the related statewide tax based on business written there. Officers named in the by-laws collect under the same rules that apply to a fire department treasurer. All tax money must be used only to support the group’s purposes, like member relief, family aid, health, safety, morale, and promoting the volunteer fire service.
