When you buy taxable items in Suffolk County, you pay an extra 1% county sales and use tax. This keeps the county portion at 4% total (3% base plus 1% extra). The authority runs through November 30, 2027. Estimate your cost: add 1% of your annual taxable Suffolk purchases.
Suffolk County must set aside part of the extra 1% sales tax for public safety. At least 12.5% and at most 37.5% go to public safety. The rest goes to the county general fund. This rule covers revenue from June 1, 2001 through November 30, 2027.
